Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSM)

What is a STSM Grant?

A Short-Term Scientific Mission grant funds a visit to a host organization located in a different country than the country of affiliation by a researcher or innovator for specific work to be carried out and for a determined period of time.

Deadline for applications: 5 April 2026

Eligibility

Grant applications need to meet the following mandatory requirements:

  • Membership in the PSY-NET network
  • Active participation in the tasks of a Working Group

Required Documents

  • Application form (COST template)
  • CV
  • Motivation letter
  • Detailed budget breakdown — detailed estimation including travel, accommodation, other costs
  • Invitation/Agreement Letter: A letter signed by a senior researcher affiliated to the host institution detailing the aim, starting date, and duration of the STSM
  • Letter of Support: A letter signed by a senior researcher from the home institution confirming the STSM and its aim

For more details regarding the regulations related to STSM grants, please refer to the COST Annotated Rules. To confirm your eligibility, you may use the Eligibility web tool.

Documents that cannot be uploaded via the e-COST interface should be sent directly to the Grant Awarding Coordinator Nikola Leca (nikola.leca@nudz.cz).

Financial Support

The financial support on offer is a contribution to the overall expenses incurred during the STSM (covering travel and subsistence expenses, paid as a grant) and may not necessarily cover all of the associated outgoings. The financial contribution will be a fixed grant based on the applicant’s budget request and the evaluation of the application by the Grant Awarding Committee.

The grant covers only travel and subsistence (lodging and meals). A detailed budget is requested for the application. The maximum budget is €4,000.

Grant Awarding Process

The supported activity, including reporting and payment, must be carried out entirely within one Grant Period. Each Grant Period runs from 1 November until 31 October of the following year.

Applications will be evaluated based on their quality and their relevance to the objectives of PSY-NET and its Working Groups:

  1. Each application will first be screened by the Grant Awarding Coordinator to verify completeness and relevance to the Action
  2. Incomplete applications will be rejected, with the possibility to resubmit
  3. Applications that pass the initial screening will be reviewed by the Grant Evaluation Committee (1–2 members per WG, nominated by WG leaders)
  4. The assessment will focus on the relevance of the proposed activity to the Action
  5. The final decision will be made by the Core Group
  6. Successful applicants will receive an official grant award letter

Please note, the selection policy promotes gender balance.

Reporting

The grantee needs to upload the scientific report and the host approval of the report. The deadline to submit the last supporting documents is 30 days from the end of the STSM on the eCOST portal.

We highly encourage sharing the results of the STSM through a manuscript, presentation, poster, or similar format.

Acknowledgement

Each publication produced with support of an STSM grant should acknowledge the support of the COST Action and whenever possible use the COST and PSY-NET logo (on slides and posters).
